It may not be summer just yet, but you can soak up plenty of fun in the sun at the annual Texas SandFest! This Friday, April 26th, head to the beach for the opening day of SandFest, the largest native-sand sculpture competition in the United States. Sculptors, visitors, natives, children, and even pets are all welcome to join in on the fun this weekend!
Texas SandFest is an internationally recognized 3-day family event that draws sculptors and tens of thousands of visitors from around the world to Port Aransas. Join the Texas SandFest this year for amazing sand sculptures, food, live music, kids’ activities, and plenty of shopping, thanks to a bountiful selection of jewelry, arts and crafts, clothing, furniture, souvenirs and more in the vendor area. This popular family event offers attendees a weekend of fun on the beach, while viewing magnificent works of sand art.
The first SandFest was organized by the Art Center for the Islands (now the Port Aransas Art Center). A few years later, the event had developed into a 3-day festival. In order to grow, the festival began to do business under the Port Aransas Community Theatre’s 501(c)3 umbrella. Before long, the festival came to require its own nonprofit distinction. Now, SandFest is a legitimate nonprofit operating under a board of directors. Over the years, Texas SandFest has brought thousands of people to the island, filling rooms and providing business for restaurants, shops and local merchants.
SandFest will happen rain or shine! The festivities will begin on Friday, April 26th at 9:00 a.m., when the Masters’ Gallery and Vendors open. Tickets to the festival are $15 for adults over the age of 13, $5 for children aged 6-12, and free for children under 5. All tickets must be purchased with cash. Children’s attractions are also available to ride for additional fees. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit www.texassandfest.org.
If you feel like escaping Sutton Place Apartments in Corpus Christi, Texas for the day, this event is a perfect opportunity to do just that! Trust us when we say that there’s no harm in getting out and exploring the greater community.
