There is something about Christmas that makes you yearn for a sing-a-long. If you think so too, you are in luck! This weekend, Michael Martin Murphey returns with his annual Christmas event, a combination of poetry and music and stories that'll warm your body like a mug of hot chocolate. Catch it on Sunday at Corpus Christi A&M Performing Arts Center.
Michael Martin Murphey's immensely successful music career has spanned four decades and has included such musical genres as folk, country, rock, Western, and cowboy music. As a singer, songwriter, and producer, he has contributed some of the most beloved songs of his generation and beyond.
A guitarist/songwriter, Murphey led the country-rock group the Lewis & Clarke Expedition in the mid- to late '60s and had some pop success. His songs were cut by the likes of Flatt & Scruggs, Kenny Rogers, Roger Miller, and Bobbie Gentry, and he eventually began recording for A&M Records, and later for Epic Records, where he enjoyed a huge pop hit in the 1970s with "Wildfire."
For a time, Murphey was known as the Cosmic Cowboy after one of his early songs. Murphey moved to Liberty Records in the early '80s and later jumped to Warner Bros., where his interest in cowboy and Native American subjects led to the foundation of the Warner Western imprint, a subsidiary label devoted to cowboy music and poetry.
Now, Murphey brings his Christmas catalogue to Corpus Christi for one evening of feel-good music. Check it out this Sunday at Corpus Christi A&M Performing Arts Center at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are now available and range from 25 to 35 dollars.
